SUNSHINE TAYLOR

Sunshine started painting in 1981, while living in northern Vermont. The beauty of Vermont was so inspirational, that I decided to try and capture it in watercolor. I instantly fell in love with painting and knew that I had found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! After more than twenty years of creating watercolors, she has now added a new direction and is working in acrylics, which are providing her with a brilliant avenue for her love of color.

A native Californian, Sunshine returned to her home state in 1989. She found it an easy transition from painting snowy Vermont to brilliant California gardenscapes, seascapes, and flowers.

Although Sunshine's paintings have matured over the years, they still retain her fresh and joyful vision. Mendocino art critic Louis Martin put it well: Sunshine's paintings work on you?after a few minutes of viewing, the warmth penetrates, defying the worst mood to do anything other than move over for happiness.

For Sunshine, the gift of painting came naturally. Although she has studied with a number of noted artists, including Lawrence Goldsmith, Judy Betts, Robert Wade, and Robert Burridge, she is primarily self-taught.

Sunshine's paintings have been widely collected on the East and West Coasts, Canada and Europe. A major collection of her work is owned by one of Canada's largest corporations. She created the 1998 poster for Art in the Gardens, the premier annual summer arts festival of the Mendocino Coast. In 2005 Sunshine was selected as artist of the year to create the poster for the prestigious Winesong! charity auction and wine tasting held at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Licensed reproductions of her paintings are marketed nationally in the form of computer screensavers and mouse pads. She illustrated A Mayflower Springs, a book of poems and short stories by Lucille Hubbard. Her paintings are represented by Edgewater Gallery and the Prentice Gallery, both in Ft. Bragg, Ca., the Mendocino Art Center, in Mendocino, Ca., and Galeria Corte Real, in Albufeira, Portugal.

Sunshine now makes her home in Caspar, California, with her husband, Glenn Rude, and her daughter Lilli.
