| I remember eating soup when I was a little girl, as the bowl was emptied a painting of a little man was revealed in the bottom of the bowl. Eating from that bowl was special. I guess I grew up with the idea that using pottery should be a special experience conjuring comfortable feelings and good memories. Like many potters, throwing has held a fascination for me since the first time I attempted to change the spinning clay on my wheel into the vision in my head. A career as a potter grew out of trying to reconcile the vision versus the reality of gravity and my skills. The battle to defy gravity can get intense and sometimes gravity still wins! My signature piece continues to be the ceramic chair. The variety of chairs waiting to be created seems to be endless. They are primarily hand built, a slow process, which provides a nice contrast to the pace of working on the wheel. |
